What is Odin Sphere about?

On the fantasy continent of Erion, a young girl named Alice climbs into her attic and opens a series of storybooks, and the tales within come to life. Erion is a land of scattered kingdoms, dominated by the warrior nation of Ragnanival, ruled by the Demon Lord Odin, and the forest realm of Ringford, ruled by the Fairy Queen Elfaria. The two powers wage war over the Crystallization Cauldron, a fearsome device that forges magical crystals by draining the life energy of the land, each side convinced it is too dangerous to leave in enemy hands. Above it all looms the prophecy of Armageddon, a foretold catastrophe destined to destroy the world.
