In the chaos, the Lifehold, a device holding the majority of the human colonists, is torn from the ship and scattered across the alien world in lifepods. Awoken from one such pod by a soldier named Elma and suffering from amnesia, the player's avatar is brought to the survivors' settlement of New Los Angeles and joins BLADE, its militia. Alongside Elma and Lin, the avatar sets out across Mira to recover lost colonists and locate the Lifehold, all while contending with the hostile alien coalition known as the Ganglion.
